PELE

The Goddess Project: Made in Her Image

July 9, 2019 UPDATE***

We are now 2 months into the active eruptions Pele is spewing out of Mt. Kilaeau on the main island of Hawaii, her orange and purple lava rivers have burnt and buried picturesque beaches and vacation homes, creating over 500 new acres of the island. In 10 days I’m going to another Hawaiian island, to hopefully hear from the locals their views of what I see as a huge omen. Someone mentioned to me that it is like the Moana movie (our review of THAT movie here: ) playing out in real life. To me, this is the Goddess Pele’s furious version of weeping Marian statues that touch our hearts. I’m constantly in awe of the “Goddesses” that come to me, telling me to put Them OUT THERE. Pele was one of the first, I knew my best friend could portray Her like no one else. Read our original post below. ***

If you’ve ever been to Hawaii, you have probably heard about the Fiery Volcano and Lightning Goddess, PELE. Every little dashboard HULA GIRL STATUE is an homage to Pele’s favorite sister, Hi’iaka whether or not the sculptor or driver have any idea. Pele carried this baby sister (Who invented the hula & for Whom hula dances are about!) in an egg when the Fire Goddess was banished from Her homeland and set out to find a new home, in HAWAII.

It is said that Madame Pele resides in MOUNT KILAUEA, one of the MOST ACTIVE VOLCANOS ON EARTH, on the big island of Hawaii. Hawaiians can’t help but believe and give offerings to Her.

PELE SIGHTINGS have been reported all over the Hawaiian Islands (and all over the world) for hundreds of years, especially near Mount Kilauea. Some say She appears young and beautiful, with a white dog or sometimes as a very fragile old beggar woman. It is said that she typically tests people by asking for food or water and those that share are rewarded but those that are greedy are punished.

There are also books about the “Pele’s Curse” that She puts on anyone that STEALS FROM HER SACRED HOME. There are even websites about where to mail back lava rock that people took as souvenirs that gave them very bad luck once they got home. (https://www.volcanogallery.com/lavarock.htm)

Pele’s volcanic lava glows

In the evenings twilight hour.

A passion filled desire,

Surging with her power.

She triumphs over man

As she adds unto the land.

Apathetic, she reaches out to claim,

Those who dare to touch her hand.

Gracefully she moves as quietly she creeps,

On her burning path toward the sea.

Wanting, all she covers she keeps….

Pele’s steamy kisses she saves for the sea.

Sorrow has followed Pele

All throughout her years.

She leaves behind her sadness

In her tiny ebony tears.

Her majesty and wonder

Leave me breathless in her sight.

I am drawn toward her beauty,

– Connie Marcum

And consumed by her delight!

Our marvelously molten model, Ronda, says it felt GREAT “being Pele”. As a Pisces from Long Beach, California, she says everything island speaks to her. Like Pele, Ronda is deeply passionate and goes after anything she sets her mind too. A glamorous yogini, devoted wife, mother (of two little boys), powerful attorney and loyal friend, Ronda is ever as much a Goddess as anyone. And sometimes she too appears with a little white dog…
