THE GODDESS PROJECT: Made in Her Image
Fairy Tales Series #1
This morning at Spring Break brunch with my preteen boys, we were talking about inventions created by women and they reminded me that “WI-FI” was also invented by a female. I shared with them that THAT inventor was a brilliant actress, HEDY LAMARR, that was SO enchanting and beautiful that Walt Disney used her as the inspiration for the 1937 original full length cartoon film, Snow White.
As I was telling them this my body started shaking, as if I’d had an almost out of body experience/heart attack kind of visceral KNOWING, whilst suddenly remembering that:
1. I’d always wanted to have Snow White represented in our Goddess Project and
2. I’d JUST dressed up as Snow White for Halloween and had taken a selfie in the backyard with an apple.
SO, as one does, when we got home, I immediately ran to my computer and emailed for the first time ever, one of my great Sheroes- Margaret Starbird! I asked is she would allow me to interview her and I also told her that I would be quoting some of her books in this very article. (She said “Yes”!)
MARGARET STARBIRD
“WHO is Margaret Starbird?”, you might ask. WELL, she “is the author of seven books arguing for the existence of a secret Christian tradition that held Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene”, says Wikipedia.
The authors go on to say: “Starbird believes that the patriarchal Roman Catholic church suppressed the veneration and devotion of the Sacred Feminine, leading to an unbalanced spirituality in mainstream Christianity.” And also: “In her 1993 book The Woman with the Alabaster Jar: Mary Magdalen and the Holy Grail, Margaret Starbird developed the hypothesis that Saint Sarah was the daughter of Jesus and Mary Magdalen and that this was the source of the legend associated with the cult at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, France. She also claimed that the name “Sarah” meant “Princess” in Hebrew, thus making her the forgotten child of the ‘sang réal’, the blood royal of the King of the Jews.”
FAIRY TALES AND PLAYING CARDS
“When so much evidence from so many diverse sources can be assembled to attest to a single hypothesis, there is good reason to take that hypothesis seriously”, Starbird wrote. It’s like learning about Santa Claus, when you learn the truth no one can fool you again. Once you begin researching that the highly protected and secret holy grail was actually Mary Magdalene’s uterine chalice that carried the bloodline of Jesus, the more validation you will find.
SECRET SOCIETIES
There are ancient secret societies that were founded (some believe by Mary Mag herself!) to carry on the legacy of knowing and protect these truth of the holy bloodline’s lineage from the repressive “Christianization” of Europe, in which 9 million women were tortured and killed during the Dark Ages. These secret groups like the Priory Notre Dame of Sion, Rosicrucians, and Knights Templar (the Sacred Marriage of Jesus and Mary Magdalen is the Templar’s famed treasure and Holy Grail) all still exist today. Fairy tales and art also survived generations which brings us back to the cult of Disney. I lovingly call it that because Disney’s size and power rivals that of the Christian Church and it is empowered by princesses that are really folk tale representations of THE HIDDEN GODDESS.
Margaret Starbird’s books share that fairy tales and playing cards and MOST(?) Medieval religious art created by our favorite “masters”, were actually vehicles used to pass down a sacred story. The hidden symbolism in these fairy tales, playing cards, literature and art was secretly and securely carrying the truth about the Holy Grail, Jesus’ hidden marriage/children and the erasure of the Divine Feminine so that it wouldn’t be completely deleted by Church leaders. It was hidden under their noses in fun and creative ways.
Periodt.
PRINCESSES
Perhaps an ancient knowing is the reason as to why little girls are captivated by the Disney princesses’ stories, or fairy tales at all. Because those pretty princesses are powerless and pining for their long lost love, it creates an empathy of the hope of restoring each to their rightful thrones. These lost and banished princesses are always kind, Nature loving and respectful to the working class. Their goodheartedness and ability to befriend wild animals is what enthralls many.
That is why the contradiction of the wicked stepmother is so startling in Snow White and the other tales. In every single story, the evil stepmother represents the Christian Church. The Church calls themselves “the Bride” (“Bride” is also a Goddess name, see my Brigid article) of Christ. So, all of the fairy tales are telling that the stepmom is the faux, evil and dangerous replacement for the Divine Mother. The Church killed the Goddess in the Gospel, altering and editing as they saw fit (but there are many versions and evidence of Her that they missed!) Did you ever wonder why ALL Disney films contain a deceased Mother: Bambi, Snow White, Little Mermaid, Rapunzel, Finding Nemo, Cinderella, Frozen, etc..!?
Ancient builders (that were actually part of the secret societies mentioned above) also hid their secret in great cathedrals adorned with love offerings of sacred Divine Feminine symbols like rose windows, naming many of these cathedrals “OUR MOTHER” (which means “Notre Dame”).
So many secrets are hidden right under our noses but are a part of our collective consciousness. Many of these ancient FAIRY (again, see Goddess Brigid) TALE stories were handed down via verbal storytelling. In modern times, we visit holy sites and castles more than any other sites on Earth, wearing mouse ears.
***At about this point in my writing, my bestie who portrayed Isis in our Goddess Project, serendipitously texted me. She was complaining about her period (Feminine) and allergies (Nature), she said she’d been watching Disney movies (Beauty and the Beast, Moana and the Little Mermaid) all week because they were soothing to her soul. I couldn’t make this stuff up!***
So, Snow White, a princess is sent away by her new wicked Stepmother. Because there “is almost always a malicious, jealous stepmom trying to keep the prince separated from his counterpart: [The Evil Queen] is trying to keep the Bride from replacing herself”, writes Starbird in The Woman with the Alabaster Jar.
She is supposed to be beheaded (um, a little gruesome for kids’ story!) but the minion never fulfills the task because even he finds it horrible. And therefore, Snow White is banished to the Forest, where she finds refuge.
The wicked stepmom figures out that Snow White is still alive and goes to kill her herself with a poisoned apple. Similarly, the Church is still telling young people “the original sin”, that all females are evil because Eve took the apple from the snake. (See my GP article on Eve!)
Snow White is either hungry or wants the Wisdom from the apple (a Goddess symbol) and falls asleep forever. UNTIL, a la Sleeping Beauty (aka “Briar Rose”, also named for Goddess symbols), Snow White falls asleep. The spell is only broken when Jesus, I mean, “Prince Charming” finds her in the overgrown rose garden. The garden is also a symbol for the Garden of Eden, which the Earth was once considered but is now overgrown and not tended to. And remember how Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene in the garden after the crucifixion?
HAPPILY EVER AFTER
In Snow White as in all of the other tales, they clearly lay it out for us. So, how do we arrive at “happily ever after”? Restore the princess with her prince, balancing the Sacred Marriage. Tend to the overgrown and maltreated garden of the Earth. Take away the power of the evil stepmother (the Church, politics, banks, all pillars of Patriarchy) and once again, everyone will be respected, cared for and we will celebrate.
